The Tamil Nadu government has allocated Rs 2,000 crore during 2014-15 to meet the ruling party's promise to distribute free mixers, wet-grinders and electric fans to the eligible ration card holders in the State.
The state plans to distribute 4.5 million units of mixies, wet-grinder and electric fans during 2014-16. Starting from 2011-12, the state so far had delivered them to 9.5 million eligible individuals in the state.
The state government held a meeting on August 18 to take note on the works done so far and to smoothen distribution of these free appliances in the near future, including the sourcing, transportation, storage and distribution of them.
The freebies were part of the AIADMK party's electoral promise to voters before the 2011 Assembly election in the state.
