TS EAMCET Vs TS EAMCET-2

The first edition TS EAMCET was conducted as per the schedule, i.e. on May 15, 2016 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM for engineering stream, and from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM for agriculture & medical (AM) stream. The authorities had announced that the test conducted in the afternoon, unlike in the previous years, was not for admissions to medical and dental colleges.

A prerequisite for admission to various professional courses offered in university/ private colleges in the state of Telangana, TS EAMCET was the only entrance test for MBBS and BDS admissions in the state. This year, however, as per orders of the Honourable Supreme Court of India, MBBS and BDS-aspirants will have to take the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) as well.

Based on the clarification provided by the Health, Medical and Family Welfare (C1) Department, Government of Telangana, the students from the state will have to appear for two tests, both EAMCET-2 and NEET/NEET-2, to be eligible for a career in medicine. Reportedly, EAMCET-2 will be the basis for filling all seats in government colleges and 50% convener quota in private medical colleges, while NEET will be the qualifying exam for management quota seats in the private colleges.

NEET-2 is slated for July 24, 2016.

TS EAMCET update

Nearly 75,000 engineering colleges seats, inclusive of government and private institutions, are to be filled up through this qualifier exams. In the past few weeks, affiliation of many colleges has been removed due to irregularities reported. But government and officials are not worried about the change in seat matrix. Instead the news about 68,000 candidates participating in the document verification process, out of a total of 1,33,000 who had taken the exam, is baffling them.

In view of an extension announced, the engineering aspirants were allowed to exercise their web options till July 13, 2016. The first seat allotment, although scheduled for July 14, 2016, may take place on July 16, 2017. The final allotments would be out on July 30, 2016. The classes are scheduled to begin from August 2, 2016.
