No business could be transacted in both houses of Parliament today after the Opposition stalled proceedings on the issue of alleged land deals in Rajasthan by Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s son in law Robert Vadra.
BJP members trooped into the well of the Lok Sabha, raising slogans on the issue; while DMK and AIADMK raised the issue of the plight of Tamils in Sri Lanka even as CPIM highlighted the issue of two Italian marines accused of killing fishermen of Kerala, refusing to return to India to stand trial.
UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi was present in the house when BJP members raised placards stating, 'Finance Minister, adopt the formula of son-in-law; earn sitting at home and reduce losses'.
The BJP had given notices in both houses for suspension of Question Hour to discuss these alleged anomalies in the land deal by Vadra in Rajasthan.
BJP Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha Gopinath Munde told reporters, “This is a very big issue. Vadra has earned crores by selling the land at very high prices. We want an inquiry into the matter.”
Both the Houses were first adjourned till noon but with noisy scenes resuming it had to be adjourned to meet post lunch. In the Lok Sabha during the Zero Hour, Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal had begun to reply to the debate on the Rail budget, but the uproar refused to abate, the Speaker adjourned the House.
