The US Consulate in Chennai has processed the highest number of employment-based visas globally this year. Thus far in the current fiscal, the Consulate has adjudicated over 208,000 visas, of which half were in the professional H and L work visa categories, said US Consul General Jennifer Mcintyre. In the current year, there was a growth of 15 per cent in the total applications processed in this category, it said.
At the Hindustan Chamber of Commerce's 67th annual session here, she said it is the US’ biggest visa adjudication posts in the world and the number one globally in processing employment-based visas.
Pointing out that both the countries have been collaborating in education for decades through programmes such as the US Fulbright grants as well as people-to-people exchanges, Mcintyre noted that more than 100,000 Indians were currently studying in the US.
