Work pressure means less family-time: 50% have no time for grandparents

Do you celebrate festivals and happy moments with your family and loved ones? If yes, you're among the rare fortunate lot who get to do so. According to Britannia Good Day Indian Family Survey Report 2018, 53 per cent of people say work pressure is preventing them from meeting with their extended families more often.

The survey also found that grandparents miss out on time with their children and grandchildren. 50 per cent millennials have spent less than 10 days in 2017 with their grandparents.

This means that many families struggle with really getting to spend some time together and just enjoy each other's company for a while.

In metropolitan cities, family-time is a rarity. Delhi spends the least time with their family, compared to the other cities and Mumbaikars get the least time with their grandparents. 4 in 10 people in Kolkata claimed to not know names of their cousins and other extended family members.

Ali Harris Shere, VP - Marketing, Britannia said, "In India, family is the most important institution that has survived through the ages. But today, family ties are being weakened due to various demands on our time."

With friends slowly becoming the new family, one in two people admit to spending just 30 days or lesser in a year with their parents, while around one-third Gen Zs across the metros spend 10 days or less with their siblings a year, said the survey.

76 per cent of working professionals cancelled family holiday at least once in the past three years. Around 60 per cent of them claimed work pressure as the cause for the same, says the survey conducted among over 760 respondents in the 15-40 age bracket across Mumbai, New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad.
