Hindu Yuva Vahini, the oraganisation set up in 2002 by Yogi Adityanath, now the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, is receiving a huge number of applications for enrolment of members, reports the Economic Times.
Earlier there was no strict process followed for enrolments. But now, a set of guidlines has been issued. Apart form submitting the Aadhaar card and voter ID, a detailed background check is being done of the applicants.
"Be very careful before inducting any new members into the organisation," reads a note posted on the Hindu Yuva Vahini website.
Earlier, an applicant used to be charged Rs 11 for membership with receipts being handed out. But the membership is now free and only online applications are accepted.
"There is a renewed interest in Hindu Yuva Vahini among people in UP and other states," said Raghvendra Pratap Singh, state chief of the Hindu Yuva Vahini. "But we are alive to the fact that many people want to join us just to spoil our image. We do not want any mafia or criminal elements to join us. Hence, we will subject people to complete background checks."
A very close vetting of the applications is being done at Hindu Yuva Vahini. Earlier, the organisation would receive only 500 to 1,000 applications per month. But the number has now gone up many folds -- to as many as 5,000 a day, according to India TV.
