Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar on Tuesday, said it was the duty of the youth to know of those who made sacrifices for the freedom of the country.
He was at Gorakhpur divisional jail here to take part in a programme which formed a part of the BJP's 'Tiranga Yatra'.
Javadekar said in an initiative by his ministry, on August 23, around 27 crore students would sing the national anthem all over the country.
The minister said the 'Tiranga Yatra' was taken out to create awareness, especially among the youth, regarding the contribution of the martyrs.
Asserting that the Kakori incident (during the freedom struggle) could never be forgotten, he said Bismil was hanged when he was only 23.
Javadekar also felicitated the families of the martyrs of the Chauri Chaura incident and visited the jail barrack and the place where Bismil was hanged.
