To contribute for the economic and social welfare in Punjab and Haryana, public-private partnership has emerged as a viable option for the private sector to achieve the objectives of corporate social responsibility (CSR).

This was the essence of the ‘CSR Best Practices Meet From Idea to Action’ organised by CII (northern region) here today.

Participants from different backgrounds including social activists, bureaucrates, industrialists, academicians and non-government organisations met to dicuss the role of the corporate sector to uplift the economically backward sections of society.

Gender discrimination in Punjab and Haryana, which is taking its toll on the gross domestic state product of the two states, was also discussed.

“Every year, Punjab witnesses about 125,000 female foeticides,” said Anurag Aggarwal, a senior IAS officer of the state cadre. He added that the census is done once in 10 years so the corporate sector can play a vital role in mobilising the data on various socio-economic parameters on the basis of a cluster approach to sensitise the people and policy makers.
