`Bengal received Rs 80,000 cr investment proposals`

Governor M K Narayanan on Thursday said that the state received Rs 80,000 crore in investment proposals in the last nine months.

In his customary speech before the budget session in the assembly here, Narayanan said that a core committee had been set up to monitor industrial progress and to facilitate industry-government interaction in the state.

He said that mega projects like Matrix Fertilisers & Chemicals were coming up at Panagarh Industrial Park.

The state had also signed an agreement with NKID for developing the Nayachar island off Haldia which would attract an investment of Rs 19,000 crore.

Narayanan said that the government had also laid thrust on the development of micro, small and medium industries.

He said that the Mirco and Small Enterprise Cluster Development Programme was a major programme aimed at the empowerment and growth of the sector.

Narayanan said that industrial reconstruction was a major objective of the government.

Steps had been taken for a comprehensive survey of sick/closed/weak industrial units in the state. The government had also attached importance to the IT sector as well, he said in his speech.
