Comptroller and Auditor General of India Vinod Rai today said that though government has not sought scrutiny of the 3G auction, CAG can do it on its own.

Talking to reporters here, Rai said, "There is no request from the government on 3G audit. We can do it on our own. Let me see. When we devise our audit plan which will come in 2011 lots of factors will go into it."

"If we feel there is a necessity then we will go for it. We do not have the requirement as yet," he said.

Rai was in the city to deliver a lecture at the College of Defence Management.

Regarding the new CAG Bill, Rai said the it will empower the audit watchdog to examine Public-Private-Participation projects also.

"We are going to take up audits of PPP projects. We have taken up some of the projects already. But it is not mandated. The government is going to Parliament for the repeal of the existing Act to cover the PPP projects also. Hopefully in the budget session the bill may pass," Rai said.
