'Boston Analytics Consumer Sentiment Index for India' is a monthly barometer of consumers' changing option and expectations from the macro economy, household financial conditions and consumption, Boston Analytics Director Sam Thomas told a press conference here.
So far, the data has been collected from the four metros by speaking to 3,057 people. Boston has spoken to about 700-750 people in each metro, he said.
The study for the index started in January. One look at the barometer from January to April showed that the employment sentiment is low, Thomas said.
But, he said, there are no specific reasons for the low sentiment. "We don't ask our respondents why they are feeling low."
Even the consumer satisfaction index is low. In the US, a low consumer satisfaction is followed by a slowdown, he pointed out.

As both India and the US are market economies and their GDPs are driven largely by consumption, there may be an indication of a slowdown, but it is too early to say anything, Thomas noted.
