'Develop analytical skills'

Registrar of VTU V Shridhar advised the engineering students to know the importance of 'programming and analytical skills' as they are essential in today's IT arena.

Speaking after inaugurating the 'Automata '05' at SDM College of Engineering and Technology here he stressed the need to capitalize the analytical and creative power to progress significantly in the IT field.

Shridhar asked the students and faculty to take up interdisciplinary projects to explore avenues in emerging technologies.

'Automata' is a state-level programming proficiency contest in C and Linux, conducted annually for engineering students of Karnataka. Sixty-five students representing various engineering colleges in Karnataka participated in the event. The students were evaluated for their programming skills in C & Linux. Technical Quiz and On-the-spot events were conducted. Vinod Kulkarni spoke on "Why to Opt for Open Source Software?"
