Designed and built indigenously by the defence PSU, Goa Shipyard Limited, the warship will carry an Advance Light Helicopter and five high speed boats to intercept any suspect vessels near ports.
The warship will be inducted into the Coast Guard by Defence Minister A K Antony at a ceremony off Goa coast and would be the fifth of the advanced warships to join the CoastGuard.
The warship equipped with sophisticated Navigation and Communication sensors has built in systems to also carry marine pollution role.
The special features include an Integrated Bridge System, Integrated Machinery Control System, high power External Fire Fighting System and two indigenously built Gun Mounts.
Besides, an Infra-Red Surveillance System will impart the AOPV with night vision capability.

The ship, to be based in Mumbai, is 105 metres long, draws 2,300 tonnes and is propelled by 8000 hp nautical miles without refueling.

The Coast Guard plans to induct one more AOPV, three Pollution Control Vessels, five Inshore Patrol Vessels and 11 Interceptor Boats, which are under various stages of construction at the Indian Shipyards, into its fleet by next year.
