Stating that there was bound to be opposition to land acquisition even though his government had received support for industrialisation from the people after the 2006 assembly election, he told party mouthpice 'Ganasakti' that "because of this, our policy should be more clear on land acquisition and rehabilitation."
He said though the Left Front government, which stepped into 32nd year of uninterrupted ruled today, implemented land reforms and distributed land after it came to power in 1977 on the basis of consenus, there was no alternative to land acquisition for industrialisation with private capital.
Bhattacharjee said a 'misconception' prevailed among opposition parties, Left Front partners and a section of the people. "We are aware of the reservation of partners to capital of big industrial houses and multinationals. We have to reach a solution through discussions", he added.
He said a preliminary review of the reasons for the party's reverses in panchayat elections, particularly at Nandigrm and Singur, showed that 'unfounded fear' among farmers over land acquistion was a contributory factor.
He also said weakness of the party and mass organisations and disunity among Left Front partners besides opposition propaganda were the reasons for the reverses.

"We have to decide our next course of action by taking into consideration all these factors," he said.
