A senior BJP minister in Karnataka today accused Congress and JD(S) of trying to topple the state government but said their attempts would not succeed.

“People of the state have already punished Congress and JD(S) for dislodging the BJP government earlier by their verdict in 2008 assembly and 2009 Lok Sabha polls. If they continue similar efforts, people will teach them an unforgettable lesson,” information minister Katta Subramanya Naidu said.

Apparently referring to JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy statement that there will be “sweet news” for people of the state soon, Naidu said: “The opposition parties are under an illusion that they will bring down the BJP government. But a sheer disappointment awaits them.”

Talking to reporters here, Naidu, a trusted aide of chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, also dismissed the discontent among a section of BJP MLAs, describing it as a “family affair”. He said the BJP government will complete its term.

Naidu said the party has no plans to revive ‘Operation Lotus’ to lure MLAs from opposition side, saying “we don’t want to put our hands on other parties.

If they come on their own, we can’t help it.” Yeddyurappa recently faced severe threat to his ministry with a section of MLAs revolting against his leadership but managed to weather the storm following the party leadership’s intervention.
