Total 11,886 megawatt (MW) of electricity was traded in the day-ahead market contract today on India Energy Exchange (IEX).

Between 1000 and 1200 hrs, buyers offered bids for 39,000 MW, while sellers for 17,632 MW, said IEX, the country's first power exchange.

However, the total volume traded on agreed price was about 11,886 MW, it said.

The minimum price that was quoted by the traders was Rs 5.99 kilowatt, while the maximum price was 8.49 kilowatt.

In the day-ahead market, price is determined by matching offers from generators to bids from consumers at each node to develop a classic supply-and-demand equilibrium price, usually on an hourly interval.

The current installed capacity of power in the country from all sources is about 1.45 lakh MW.

While on IEX, only 0.5 per cent of the total power produced in the country is traded now.
