The Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authority (PUDA) is setting up 13 new urban estates and has made a provision of Rs 210 crore for purchasing land.
The new estates will come up in Zirakpur, Derabassi, Kharar, Nabha, Barnala, Khanna, Moga, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Phillaur, Beas, Pathankot and Nawanshehar.
The authority has proposed a capital expenditure of Rs 661.7 crore for 2003-04 as against Rs 374.32 crore in 2002-03. The budget provisions were approved by the authority on March 29.

The budget proposal stresses development of urban estates and construction of 8,800 HIG, MIG, LIG and EWS houses. Forty per cent of it will be for the economically weaker section (EWS).
The budget outlay for 2003-04 for this purpose is Rs 199.5 crore and the number of houses to be constructed are about 8,800 as against a token provision of Rs 1.71 crore, made for this purpose during the financial year 2002-03, a statement said.
