Major infrastructure players like Larsen & Toubro, Reliance Energy Ltd (REL), Jaypee, Hyderabad-based GMR group, and Delhi-based real estate players DLF and Omaxe in consortium with GVK Constructions and Nagarjuna Construction Company are among 18 bidders for the Uttar Pradesh government's Rs 30,000-crore, 1047-km Ganga Expressway project. |
Today was the last day for potential investors to submit the request for qualification (RFQ) form, following a three-day extension granted by the state government for Chief Minister Mayawati's dream road project. |
The expressway, the biggest roads project by a state government in recent times, has attracted significant investor interest because it includes land development and revenue-raising rights through tolls over a 35-year concession period. |
There will be 20 toll plazas on the expressway, which will be executed on a design, build, finance and operate model. |
The requests were submitted to the Pradeshiya Industrial and Investment Corporation of Uttar Pradesh (PICUP) for the development of the access-controlled eight-lane expressway, which will connect Greater Noida in western UP to Ballia in eastern UP. |
The consultants to the projects are Kolkata-based SREI Infrastructure Finance Ltd and the Indian Railways' consultancy firm RITES. |
The state government, which will oversee the administration of the project, plans to start construction of the expressway from April 2008, though the consultants have not yet decided when it will be completed. |
Starting from the freight container depot at Sikandarabad in Gautam Buddha Nagar, the expressway will follow the left bank of the river Ganga. |
The project is divided into four packages. These are: Greater Noida to Fatehgarh including the Farrukhabad Link (253 km) involving an investment of Rs 7,631 crore; Fatehgarh to Dalmau (Rae Bareli) including the Lucknow link (305 km), worth Rs 8,012 crore; Dalmau (Rae Bareli) to Aurai (Bhadoi) including the Mirzapur Link (211 km) worth Rs 6,124 crore; and Aurai (Bhadoi) to Ballia (278 km) worth Rs 8,058 crore. |
Bidders can opt for any one package or a combination of the first and second or third and fourth. They also have the option of bidding for all four packages. |
