In a bid to provide relief to residents reeling from the impact of high onion prices, the district administration has announced that it will open 25 outlets here for sale of the vegetable at Rs 22-24 per kg.
A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of the district administration yesterday, official sources said today.
The outlets would be opened in different parts of the city so that customers can avail of the facility without having to travel great distances, they said.
The administration has also asked officers to keep a close watch on the situation so that hoarders do not benefit from the price rise.
"Even wholesalers will not be allowed to charge much, so that prices might come down in the (retail) market as well," ADM (Civil Supplies) S K Singh said.
