The Uttaranchal government is negotiating with the Centre to set up a 300-Mw gas power plant in Hardwar, according to M Ramachandran, additional chief secretary.

He told reporters the government was in touch with firms like Gas Authority of India Ltd to bring a gas pipeline to Hardwar, where the government had set up an integrated industrial estate that was attracting huge investments.

"We are doing our best to ensure no disruption in power supply to units," Ramachandaran said.

He noted investments of Rs 10,000 crore were in different stages of implementation in the state. "The Hardwar and Pantnagar industrial estates have drawn huge investments," he said.

In addition to this, the government is trying to tap resources for hydro projects, for which the government is inviting central agencies as well as private players to invest in the sector.

"We see scope for hydel projects of 20,000 Mw. Already work on hydro projects of 14,000 Mw is under progress," he said. The government was upgrading its sub-stations to supplement the power supply, he said.
