The Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (Aperc) on Tuesday issued the tariff order for 2005-06 that comes into effect from April 1, 2005, with a marginal 4 per cent reduction in industrial energy charges.

Except for the industrial tariff and certain modifications in the agri sector as prescribed by the state government's modified free-power policy, tariff for the remaining categories of consumers is kept unchanged.

In another minor modification, Aperc has enhanced the existing limit of 5 per cent on the connected load for lighting purpose for the LT(low tension)-3 category (both industry and optional industry) to 10 per cent.

The existing rates of energy charges of Rs 3.50 per unit have been brought down to Rs 3.25 per unit for 132 kv and above, to Rs 3.35 per unit for 33 kv and to Rs 3.40 per unit for 11 kv and below voltage utilisation.

S Suryaprakasha Rao, secretary, Aperc, said that the tariff order was finalised after taking into consideration the net annual revenue requirement for the APTransco and four Discoms of Rs 10,606.90 crore and the subsidy of Rs1,599.48 crore committed by the state government.

The net revenue from tariff as per the above tariff orders is calculated at Rs 8,882.43 crore.

The commission has also asked the power utilities to generate Rs 125 crore from internal resources through efficiency improvement measures which will fill the remaining gap between the revenue requirement and actual receipts by way of charges and subsidy.
