The fair was organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Marg Constructions in Cheyyur, near Chennai on Saturday. Over 600 rural youth from Kancheepuram district attended the fair while 450 students were provided job opportunities.

The rural job fair serves as a platform for the rural youth in the Cheyyur taluk to enhance their employment opportunities after the training provided through the Grassroot Level Skill Development Initiative (GLSDI) programme of CII.

Marg, in collaboration with CII, had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on June 9, 2007, to initiate the GLSDI programme in Cheyyur taluk.

The programme aims to train 5,000 unemployed rural youth on pre-employment skills to offer them employment opportunities in the organised sector through a consortium of companies across management, retail and logistics sectors.

Over 800 rural youth have successfully completed the GLSDI pre-employment skills training.
