A'bad to get sporty with soccer stadium

Armed with a Rs 300 crore investment, Mumbai-based SE TransStadia Pvt Ltd., a Setco Group company, is planning to come up with a 1.3 million sq feet  football stadium at Kankaria area in Ahmedabad.

With this, the company, which is into holistic sports development, plans to bring multisports, entertainment, retail facilities and a hospitality complex under one roof with an integrated format in Ahmedabad.

The project is being developed in Public Private Partnership (PPP) with the Government of Gujarat.

The project is expected to be ready in two years and once completed it will have a seating capacity for 20,000 spectators. Alongwith a training academy, the multipurpose stadium is slated to have the infrastructure to support 14 sports including tennis, squash, badminton and many other floor games among others.

"With the Gujarat economy booming at a steady pace, we wanted to be part of its growth curve and with this offering we are sure that it will provide a fillip to the sports initiatives in the state. Apart from a sports facility we are also looking at hosting events and concerts in keeping with the sports and entertainment or 'sportainment' theme floated by the company. The facility will also house a gymnasium, sports medicine and science center in the stadium," said Atul Sheth, managing director and CEO of SE TransStadia Pvt Ltd.

Founded in 2008, SE TransStadia is a group company of the Setco Group . The company is incorporating the globally patented StadiArena technology from United Kingdom in the Ahmedabad stadium which will increase the stadium utilisation to 67%.

TransStadia has set up a manufacturing plant in Vadodara to make modular stadiums with globally patented Swiss T-Box technology. Through this technology, modular stadiums of any size and dimension for any sport can be set up at any location within a week.

"Essentially we are a sports company, so our aim is to utilise the stadium to almost 70 per cent as opposed to sports stadiums that are used just couple of times a year. We aim to have spaces where people can meet up in evenings and have kept it as a multipurpose event with sports taking centrestage. Currently we are in the process of working with five different state governments to come up with similar sports facilities in the country. We are aiming to build seven stadium in the next three years," Sheth added.

SE TransStadia also hosts India's leading sports convention the India International Sports Summit (IISS) and releases the 'TransStadia - Ernst & Young Sports Industry Report' at this premier sports convention every year. Apart from holistic sports development the company is also into sports intellectual property rights and content.
