A walk to rediscover the Hampi heritage

The weeklong ‘Heritage Walk’ organised by the Hampi World Heritage Area Management Authority (HWHAMA) as part of Hampi Utsav commenced here on Sunday

The walk aims at explo-ring the cultural landscape of the erstwhile capital of Vijayanagar.

The walk will allows participants to explore the cultural landscape of Hampi and pass through the ruins, and enables them to interact closely with the nature and get a feel of its history, heritage, tradition and culture.

Sources from the auth-ority said, the walk will reveal the cultural features which represents the nature of Vijayanagar capital and also the defence and water systems, historic pathways and settlements.

The participants will cover less than five kms a day. They will pass through various archaeological remains in the royal enclosure like the Queen’s bath, stepped well, aquaduct, Mahanavami Dibba, a secret chamber, the King’s Audience Hall, horse stables and the royal pathway to the Hazara Ram temple.

The team will also take another path that leads to the Achyutapura and visit the temple, big bazaar and the ancient pushkarani (pond) which has been rejuvenated. The participants will be taken across the Tungabhadra river in a coracle which will pass thro-ugh the Purandara Mantap to reach the Vijaya Vithala temple complex.

The complex has the stone chariot and musical pillars. The walk will conclude with the visit to Ugra Narasimha, Sasivekal and Kadlekal Ganapati idols and Virupaksheshwara temple, the principal deity of the Vijayanagar emperors.
