Even as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came out in support of the Lok Pal Bill being expeditiously drafted and presented in the monsoon session of Parliament, senior leader of the Party, L K Advani, said the real test of the government will depend on the action it takes in the three scams that have come to light.
“The sincerity of the Union government would depend on the action taken in the three scams that have already come to light, the spectrum scam, the Commonwealth Games scam and the Mumbai defence land scam,” Advani wrote on his blog today. “It is generally accepted that corruption prevails not because of a lack of necessary laws, but because those in the establishment lack the will to punish the scamsters.”
The BJP also accused the government of making no effort to get back the illegal money stashed in foreign banks abroad. “The other sore point with the masses is that... the government of India has made no earnest efforts in this regard,” said Advani.
