The distribution department, called VMC Natural Gas Distribution Cell, at present supplies piped natural gas (PNG) across the city.
The Adani Group had bagged the licence to distribute gas in Ahmedabad and Vadodara six months back.
The Rs 4,500-crore Adani Group, which has recently set up Gujarat Adani Energy Ltd (GAEL) to distribute both PNG and compressed natural gas (CNG), will start setting up the network in Vadodara from November. Work on the gas pipelines in Ahmedabad will start in January next year.
