The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) has accepted Asian Development Bank's conceptual development plan report on Vizag Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC), Commerce & Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

The master plan report on the Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC), being developed in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), has also been accepted, she added.

The report has identified three industrial nodes i.e. Krishnapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), Tumkur( Karnataka) and Ponneri ( Tamil Nadu).

The corridor between Chennai – Bengaluru – Chitradurga (around 560 km) would have an influence area spread across the states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The strategy to develop the CBIC is part of the plan to achieve accelerated development and regional industry agglomeration in the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

The East Coast Economic Corridor (ECEC) is envisaged from Kolkata (in West Bengal) to Tuticorin (in Tamil Nadu). The first phase of the ECEC focuses on the Vizag-Chennai section which runs from Vishakhapatnam (Vizag), Andhra Pradesh to Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
