The Centre today announced release of additional kerosene and free domestic cooking gas for the flood-hit areas of Bihar.

"The flood situation in Bihar is very grim. We are doing all that is possible to help the state," Petroleum Minister Murli Deora told reporters here.

The government is releasing 10,000 tonnes of additional kerosene over and above the state's entitlement of 54,000 tonnes to meet cooking and lighting needs.

Besides, it will provide free domestic cooking gas (LPG) to relief camps set up for flood victims in the state.

"We can provide additional kerosene if demanded by the state," Deora said, adding,
"We will try and give free LPG to community kitchens set up for the flood victims. The scheme will continue as long as camps are there."

State-run oil companies will also provide relief material like medicines worth Rs five crore to flood victims.

"We are also trying to arrange for boats through the Red Cross," said Deora after reviewing fuel supply situation in Bihar at a high-level meeting held here.

A total of 15 of the 40 petrol pumps in the flood-hit areas are marooned.

"Oil operations in the state have not been affected by the floods. There is no casualty (from oil sector)," he said.

Bihar's only oil refinery at Barauni was running without problem and there were no glitches reported at any of the pipelines in the state.
