West Bengal is going to hold an additional mop up round of Pulse Polio on July 4, to stub out the pockets of 'gap' in mass immunisation programmes undertaken earlier.

The state plans to step up booth activities and also increase house visits to increase penetration in villages. The role of observers has also been narrowed down so that they can keep a stricter vigil on the proceedings.

"An observer will keep watch on three booths this time as compared to five booths earlier. We recognise that there is pockets of resistance and we also could not access all child. There was lack in supervision but a corrective measure has been taken this time," a state government officials said at a press meet organised by government in association with Unicef in Kolkata today.

The additional round is being arranged in the state which found one case of polio incidence in 2004 at Maheshtala in South 24 Pargana. The state government official called for greater community participation to eradicate the killer disease.
