Kolkata-based Adhunik Power and Natural Resources has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) for setting up a 1,000MW power plant.
APNRL is setting up a 1000 MW thermal power plant based on coal as primary fuel which is expected to be commissioned by June 2011.The coal needed for the power project would be sourced from from Ganeshpur, Jharkhand, captive coal block of 65 MT which has been allotted to the company.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Ramashray Prasad Singh, minister for power, Swapan Mukherjee, chairman, BSEB, R K Sharma, member (transmission and generation, BSEB) and other state government and BSEB officials. Representing the Adhunik group was its chairman, Nirmal Agarwal. Agarwal said, “We are delighted to get this opportunity to set up a power plant in Bihar-the Land of Buddha. We hope to serve the cause of Bihar industry by supplying quality power at reasonable cost.”
The Adhunik group has an annual turnover of Rs 2,500 crore and has installed capacities for manufacture of sponge iron, auto grade steel, ferro chrome, forgings and power. It is diversifying into cement with an upcoming one million ton cement plant in Meghalaya.
