The government would spend over Rs 130 crore in modernising the intellectual property administrative infrastructure, Commerce and Industry Minister Arun Jaitley said while laying the foundation of a new intellectual property office here on Saturday.
Jaitley pointed to several significant modernisation initiatives like the modernisation of existing infrastructure, increased computerisation and the recruitment of additional examiners.
The development of an on-line novelty search facility, the designing and use of a logo for intellectual property administration, the development and use of work manuals and the digitisation of records were mentioned by the minister as steps towards the modernisation of the administrative infrastructure of intellectual property.
The Patents (Amendment) Act, 2000, had made the quick assessment of trademark and patent applications possible, the minister said.
