BJP President L K Advani today said any uncertainty about his continuation as party chief ended when the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) officially issued a statement to this effect.

In an interview given to news channel Star News, Advani said the embarrassment caused to senior leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee and him by RSS chief K S Sudershan's remarks were offset when the RSS went on record that Advani must continue.

With this Advani has sought to put an end to an embarrassing chapter haunting his fifth term as party president. In a reply to a specific question on whether he had thought of resigning, Advani said, "I will not comment on what I had thought of at that moment. But I spoke to sarsanghchalakji, and he said that he did not mean it."

On Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Advani admitted that there were some issues which need to be addressed but that "those issues will be addressed within the Parivar."

Advani who will be going on a visit to Pakistan on May 30 said that the visit had personal connotations for him as he had visited the country only once in 1979, after leaving his home in Karachi during Partition. "I hope to forward the peace process," he said.
