Finding itself unable to accomplish the large-scale planning required for the development of industrial areas outside Agra under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), the Agra Development Authority (ADA) has decided to seek external help.

With the relocation of all industrial units of the town on cards, the ADA has asked private infrastructure companies to take up the massive project of moving thousands of industrial units of Agra connected to jewelry, metal casting, petha and footwear in specially prepared industrial enclaves outside city borders to facilitate an unimpeded development of Agra as a metropolitan city.

According to Authority officials, there were two infrastructure companies competing for this prestigious project but Hyderabad based Ramky Infrastructure Ltd appears to have struck the right note by coming up with its technical presentation recently, while the second contender "" Singapore based Manhard Consulting Ltd failed to give a presentation despite being asked twice.

Talking to Business Standard, ADA's Town Planner SP Gaur said that so far, the Authority had only been approached by two infrastructure companies for the project and technical bids of both companies had been put up before the Authority Vice-Chairman for approval, though the fact that Manhard Consulting Ltd, Singapore had been unable to display their engineering capabilities through a presentation could play against the company's bid.

He said that the company that was awarded the contract, will bear the responsibility of preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) about the project, including the "How, Where and When" of the industrial relocation.

The land requirements for the relocation will also be computed by the infrastructure company, while ADA will extend its assistance in acquisition of the marked land for the development of industrial areas.

Gaur claimed that under JNNURM, the urban structure of Agra is set to undergo major changes and that included the segregation of industrial areas from the residential districts in an effort to bring about improvements in the city's environment besides solving the problem of overcrowding in almost entire city.
