With big money flowing into government projects for the development of tourism in Agra, private entrepreneurs too are beginning to show interest in developing tourism-centric facilities in the town. |
After developing the 147-acre "Fun City" in Noida, a private infrastructure company International Recreation Park Pvt Ltd has recently placed a proposal for developing a 400-acre amusement park in the town at Rs 1,000 crore. |
According to Agra Divisional Commissioner Ashok Kumar, the "Fun City" will be a rival to any amusements parks established elsewhere in India that shall include joy rides, water slides & other amusement facilities some of which are not available in other amusement parks. |
He said that prima-facie, the company's presentation of the project was found to approved and he had now asked the Agra district administration and Agra Development Authority to jointly search for an adequate piece of land for this immense project, either on the Agra-Mathura Bye-pass, near the Taj Mahal or the Sikandra industrial area. |
According to company officials present in the meeting, the project would be completely financed by the company and the only government help that was required in the matter was the procurement of land, which was definitely a tough task in a city like Agra where large stretches of open land were not easily available. |
Talking to the mediapersons, the Commissioner who is also the chairman of the Agra Development Authority, said that he had now asked the company to place a formal proposal before him for the project and indicate the possible sites selected by it for establishing the amusement park so that the project could be forwarded to the state government for the final approval. |
Kumar said that this project shall be the first such private project that shall have no government involvement in Agra and it would prove to be a great asset for the town's tourism industry. |
