Ahmedabad Municipal Corp plans Rs 400 crore facelift

To develop roads of length 140 km, build new bridges and flyovers

Keeping pace with the real estate boom, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is pumping around Rs 400 crore, which is about one-third of its total annual budget, in ramping up the city infrastructure especially roads, over-bridges, under-bridges and a five storey parking building.
 
"We are developing city roads with a total length of 140 km and width from 60 ft to 132 ft at a cost of Rs 1 crore per km and a five storey multi purpose parking zone at Municipal Market, C G Road. Six new bridges are also coming up," Gautam Shah, chairman of Road and Building Development told Business Standard.
 
Work at another six bridges are already underway.
 
Last year, the spending of the Road and Building Development Committee was around Rs 200 crore.
 
The five storey multi-purpose parking premises at MM is expected to cost around rupees one crore.
 
Two floors would be built underground and one on the ground floor, which could be used for commercial office, he added.
 
AMC has received 3-4 tenders for its proposed Sabarmati-Hasol bridge.
 
Work is also undergoing at the Vasna-Pirana and Vadash-Dudheswar bridges with a cost of over Rs 30 crore each, and is expected to be completed by May and October respectively, next year.
 
Tenders are under scrutinies for Sanini-Chal and Thakkar-Bapanagar fly-overs with an estimated cost of Rs 18 crore and Rs 25 crore, respectively.
 
Two more fly-overs are likely to come up at AEC-Naranpura and Shivranjani four roads.
 
Tenders have also been received for Ladlapir underpass at Girdharnagar and ITI underpass at Kubernagar.
 
Works at two over-bridges "� Shreyas and Daxini, are expected to conclude in June next year while another bridge will come up at Parimal crossing but officials are yet to finalised on it.
 
As far as roads are concerned, 65 km will be covered in the first two phases which will be completed by March next year.
 
The cost of this project is around Rs 68 crore.
 
The 140 km road construction is expected to be completed in two years in its plans for a dust free city.
 
The road will have separate bicycle track and sidewalk lanes, this is being developed by Hyderabad-based developer.
 
Meanwhile, interlocking footpath at a cost of Rs 30 crore is also going on at various wards of the city and will be ready by the end of this year.
 
The corporation's Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS) project is also underway.
