Freight traders who have been complaining about the backlog at the Chennai container terminal, now find their operations further thwarted with a complete systems failure at the international airport.

"The problem has been persisting for the past two weeks and has become severe in the last one week," said Rafeeque Ahmed, president of Federation of Indian Export Organisations (Fieo).

A Fieo statement explained that following the systems failure at the cargo complex of Airport Authority of India, custom house agents are not able schedule their programme of clearance.

The entire function at the complex has come to a standstill and over 2,000 bills of entry are pending delivery.
