All-party meeting to be convened to evolve consensus
In the face of stiff opposition from its crucial allies the Telegu Desam Party (TDP), the Trinamool Congress and the Janata Dal (United) and the DMK apart from other parties, the government today beat a retreat in the Lok Sabha and shelved plans for introduction of a Bill for banning cow slaughter.
Apparently, the resistance by allies bewildered the government leaders and Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee directed Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj stop the tablingof the Bill to respect to wishes of the allies.
