The government today said private power equipment makers like Alstom, Toshiba would establish their manufacturing units in the country in the coming 3-4 months, giving a push to electricity generation.
"Alstom, Toshiba, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and others have taken land here and in 3-4 months they will be establishing their units," Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde told reporters here.
The Power Ministry aims to add 78,700 MW power generation capacity by March 2012. Further, it has set an ambitious target of over producing additional 1,00,000 MW electricity during the 12th Five-Year Plan Period (2012-17).
"The target for the 11th Plan is 78,700 MW at the moment, in the 12th Plan we need to have more than 1,00,000 MW. The orders for equipment to generate 25,000-30,000 MW in the 12th Plan have been placed," Shinde said.
On being asked about delay in equipment supply, the minister said, "We have talked to BHEL regarding the same."
State-run NTPC would soon float a tender to invite bids for nine 660 MW super critical units and two units of Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC).
Larsen & Toubro in joint venture with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), JSW-Toshiba, Bharat Forge-Alstom and Ansaldo-GB Engineering among others may bid for the projects. An indigenous manufacturing unit is the primary requirement for bidding.
