In a bid to see the state's global trade multiply by manifold, the Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA) has mooted the idea of constructing a World Trade Center (WTC) in Ahmedabad to the Gujarat government.
If constructed the center will complement the numerous projects being signed up during the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors' Summit (VGGIS).
Sunil Shah, chairman - special projects committee, AMA said, "We have floated the idea of constructing a World Trade Center in Gujarat to the state government. The government has shown positive interest in the project that can see investment of over Rs 100 crore."
Offering a rationale on having a WTC in the state, Shah said that currently, entrepreneurs who are looking at entering global trade have to visit the WTC in Mumbai to avail information about other countries. "But once such a center is developed in Gujarat, it will help global trade from the state grow in manifold," he added.
Once constructed, the WTC in Gujarat is likely to be the fourth in the country. "Apart from Mumbai, there are also WTCs being developed in Hyderabad and Bangalore and are likely to come up soon," he added.
While the idea has been mooted by AMA, the project might be funded by the state government. However, Shah added that the project is currently on the drawing board.
