The Gujarat State Petronet Ltd (GSPL) has completed the Amboli-Dahej LNG pipeline with an investment of nearly Rs 110 crore. The testing of the 46-km pipeline is in progress and the pipeline will be commissioned within four-six weeks.
GSPL has also started implementing the Bhadbhut to Paguthan (approximately 30-km) pipeline and the project is expected to be commissioned during the last quarter of the current financial year.
With its commissioning, GSPL will start transmission of gas to various users such as the Gujarat State Energy Generation Company, Gujarat Alkalies & Chemicals Ltd, Gujarat Electricity Board, Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertiliser Corporation and Gujarat PowerGen Energy Corporation.

GSPL managing director Sanjay Gupta said that the Amboli-Dahej pipeline, which will carry LNG from Hazira terminal, would also have a station to compress gas up to 24 kg/cm2 since the gas coming from the Hazira wells of Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Ltd (GSPCL) is at low pressure.
Currently, GSPL is the only company in the country offering gas transmission services on an exclusive basis as unbundled product. The present project is part of the first three segments viz Hazira-Mora, Amboli-Dahej and Bhadbut-Paguthan. Approximately 200 km of high-pressure spur lines will be implemented in two phases.
As a part of section 1 of Phase-I of the project, GSPL had undertaken implementation of the Amboli pipeline to Dahej project. The company has also integrated an existing pipeline of Gujarat Gas Company Ltd (GGCL) for carrying gas from Hazira to Amboli into it.
GSPL, a wholly owned subsidiary of GSPCL, has been set up to construct a network of approximate 1,500-km pipeline within Gujarat as part of the state government's decision to support various LNG import schemes planned in the state.
While planning for augmenting supplies of gas in Gujarat, the state government realised that in order to achieve the desired objective it is absolutely essential to create necessary infrastructure in the form of gas transmission system for ensuring supply of gas to potential consumers.
Gujarat is the first state to take the initiative for the development of gas distribution infrastructure in terms of setting up a gas grid.
