The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has told the owners of illegal hoardings in the city to pay a regularisation fee.

Many hoarding owners preferred to keep the hoardings under wraps as they could pay the regularisation fee along with the registration fee in the new year.

According to some hoarding owners, if they pay the registration fee now, they will have to renew them within 10 days, as a new registration fee will become applicable from January 1.

"We would anyway have to pull down these structures, but it solves our purpose that they have wrapped up the hoardings in such a way that advertisements cannot be displayed," said R A Makadia, deputy municipal commissioner, west zone and estate.

Makadia said while some have already paid up the regularisation fee, most others will do so in the first week of January, after which they will be allowed to display advertisements.

According to Makadia, there are over 2,000 illegal hoardings within the city limits, and the exact number of illegal hoardings is not known.

The civic body will ensure that all hoardings within AMC limits are regularised, which will also bring in revenue to the civic body, he added.
