Car owners in Ahmedabad who have registered their vehicles in Gandhinagar to save octroi and vehicle tax beware. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has already moved in to curb this practice that results in revenue loss to the civic body.
Several vehicle owners, especially those who purchase cars in Ahmedabad, prefer to register their vehicles in neighbouring Gandhinagar Regional Transport Authority (RTA) to save octroi and vehicle tax that the AMC charges.
By evading 2.50 per cent octroi and an additional Rs 1,100 life-time tax charged for vehicles within the AMC limits, people save up to Rs 20,000 as these levies do not apply in the capital.
The AMC has now sought a list of all those who have registered vehicles in Gandhinagar.
