American investors would be apprised of the immense investment potential in the North East, particulalrly in Assam, and efforts would be made to bring in investment in key sectors of the region.
American Chamber of Commerce in India's Kolkata Chapter Chairman Ambarish Dasgupta told reporters that the organisation in its introductory visit here would explore the possible areas of investment and convey the same to probable American investors.
He said the North East, particularly Assam, was rich in several key resources like petroleum, gas, tea, workforce and biodiversity which could be explored to the benefit of both local population and American investors.
"We urge a nodal agency to prepare a positioning paper identifying the key sectors and we will reach out to the investors acting as a bridge," Dasgupta said.
The Chamber during preliminary interaction with various stakeholders along with research and analyses had found that collaboration was possible in oil, tea, tourism, power, infrastructure, scientific research, professional training among other sectors.
"Our primary objective is to support ongoing business operations of its members and promote and encourage US investment in India," he added.
US Consul General at Kolkata Beth A.Payne said that the United States was watching the Assam situation and economy and it was upto the government here to identify the key areas for investors to explore.
