Nearly 200 odd staffers of AMRI Hospitals' Dhakuria unit, where a devastating fire claimed 93 lives, have opted for discontinuation of services with the facility citing "security problems".
"Around 200 staffers have sought for discontinuation of their services with AMRI as they fear they will be harmed in some way by outsiders," sources said.
The facility currently has around 1,500 staffers working in various departments like nursing, housekeeping, marketing, administration and clinical departments, they said.
The decision was taken today after yesterday's clash between the hospital employees and media persons following Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's unannounced visit to the unit.
Meanwhile, Kolkata Municipal Corporation mayor Sovan Chatterjee, Police Commissioner Ranjit Pachnanda, ADG Fire Services DP Biswas and representatives of Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation held a meeting today to review fire fighting mechanism in place at various city hospitals.
At the meeting it was decided to form individual teams to carry out inspection in all private hospitals and nursing homes in the city, following which a report would be submitted to the chief secretary.
