20-km four-lane expressway from Parade Grounds to Shamirpet also gets nod.
The Andhra Pradesh government on Thursday in-principle accepted the proposal for a four-lane road connecting the north Telangana districts with ports and for developing an industrial corridor along the project.
The project, to be implemented on a build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis, will connect Nizamabad (NH 7) with Jagayyapet in Krishna district via Jagityal, Karimnagar, Warangal, Khammam and lastly connecting Vijayawada and Machilipatnam port.
Chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy directed the roads and buildings department to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) on BOT terms. The Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation will foot the bill for the preparation of the DPR.
He also approved the proposal for an over 20-kilometre four-lane elevated expressway from Parade Grounds to Shamirpet here, as part of the Rajiv Rahadari, on a BOT basis.
The decision came in favour of an elevated expressway due to problems such as road widening and land acquisition since military lands are involved. Further, he approved the proposal for the four-lane widening of Rajiv Rahadari up to Karimnagar.
