Andhra Pradesh chief secretary PK Mohanty today appealed to the striking employees of the state power utilities to wait till the new governments come into force from June 2.

Mohanty in his address to mediapersons said it was not the right time for the staff to go on strike and urged them to call off the move. The employees of Andhra Pradesh Transmission Corporation (Transco) and state Generation Corporation went on a flash strike this morning for the immediate implementation of agreed pay-revision.

"We're not able to take decision as the new governments in both states will be in place in a few days. We raised the matter with the state Governor and are ready to discuss it with the respective state governments. Having waited so long, you will not lose anything by waiting for a few more days," said Mohanty.

He also said the implementation of 27.5 per cent interim relief (IR) to the staff would cause an additional burden of Rs 1,250 crore on the exchequer. He urged the staff to maintain uninterrupted power supply to railways and hospitals.
