With various students organisations joining the ongoing agitation for separate Telangana state, the state government on Thursday declared a 15-day holiday from December 4 for all junior, degree and postgraduate colleges located in the Telangana region.
The movement, launched by Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), took a violent turn on Sunday with the arrest of regional party president, K Chandrasekhar Rao, hours before he was to go on a ‘fast unto death’.
In a spontaneous outburst of anger following Rao's arrest, students of Osmania University in the state capital, Kakatiya University in Warangal and Telangana University in Nizamabad staged demonstrations and clashed with police. Since then, they had intensified their stir.
Meanwhile, Rao has been brought to Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences here from the Khammam Government Hospital, where he was undergoing treatment for the last four days.
