The Andhra Pradesh government, in association with Infosys Technologies Limited, is planning to develop a master plan for the proposed IT special economic zone (SEZ) and surrounding areas near the upcoming international airport.

The Infosys team, which met the chief minister recently, expressed its willingness to assist the government in this regard, officials said.

Infosys is proposing to establish a self-contained campus in the IT SEZ with residential facilities for its 70 per cent of the workforce within the campus, according to company officials. As the facility is expected to be built on a nearly 600 acres of land with a capacity to employ about 30,000 IT professionals, the Indian IT major wants its neighbourhood to be equally salubrious, they said.

During the discussions, chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy assured the visiting delegation that his government would get a suitable master plan ready for the area to enable the setting up of the campus, officials told Business Standard.

The need to have self-contained campuses in the areas surrounding the upcoming international airport is felt more as there is no social infrastructure like townships to accommodate high-salaried professionals.

Besides, it is quite far from the city's upper middle-class areas with a long stretch of Old City and few villages separating the two, officials said.

Keeping this in view, all future campuses, including Fab City, is expected to have its own social infrastructure including residential buildings for their employees. This is exactly for this reason Infosys sought a bigger chunk of land for the proposed campus.
