Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today launched the Agriculture Technology Mission (ATM) at the Indira Priya Darshini auditorium, Public Gardens. |
The ATM, to be chaired by the chief minister, will address the problems of agriculture and allied sectors such as dairy, poultry, fisheries, sericulture, horticulture, and irrigation with a view to achieving at least a four per cent annual growth rate in all these sectors, individually as well as collectively. |

Launching the mission, Reddy said, "Good rains in one season may be followed by a spell of drought in the next and, therefore, agriculture calls for an integrated action plan to tackle various issues." |

The ATM would interact with all the departments concerned, fix targets in both physical and financial terms department-wise and monitor the performance of each department along with their respective ministries to avoid any duplication of executive work. |

Some of the goals of the ATM are improving efficiency of water utilisation, contract farming with appropriate legal framework, strengthening of credit and insurance, reorient agricultural extension system with focus on empowerment of farmers and identification of potential yield gaps in various crops and bridge the gaps through precision farming techniques. |

The governing body of the ATM would consist of deputy chairman, ministers and principal secretaries from agriculture and allied sectors, besides subject experts and academicians. The executive committee would be chaired by the chief minister, deputy chairman, five subject experts and the principal secretary, ATM. |

A total of 565 best farmers and officials from various departments were felicitated on the occasion. State Bank of India, Andhra Bank, State Bank of Hyderabad and the Andhra Pradesh State Cooperative Bank (APCOB) received the best banker awards. |
