The Andhra Pradesh government has been adopting a special mechanism on energy conservation on war footing, and it has been putting all efforts to achieve the desired goals by implementing energy efficiency programmes like DSM-based efficient lighting programme (DELP) for domestic households, said chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

"As a first step, we have taken up replacement of inefficient sodium vapour street lights with energy efficient LED (light-emitting diode) lighting system, which has been recognised at the national-level. The Centre has also appreciated the energy efficiency policies of the AP government and it is estimated that implementation of the DELP programme alone will save around 500 Mw (or 12 million units per day)," he said.

According to him, so far 820,000 LED bulbs have been distributed in Guntur district in Phase-I and is planned to be extended to the entire state," he said.
